Norway

A friend who had just returned from Norway - sent these awesome and breath-taking pictures of his trip on a hike in Norway to tempt me into promising that the spouse and I would join him and his for his next trip.  i joked with the spouse who was reading on relacore reviews that the view was so spectacular even if i were to shiver and my knees goes jello - it would be worth it.

My friend dared me to stand on the edge when i reach Kjerag and look down 1000 meters at Lysefjord.  It is legal to skydive from these mountains if you didn’t know by now.  So if you are into all this heights and adventure - power to you.    Lysefjord, a fjord located in Forsand in south-western Norway and yes - i was there in 2005 to watch U2 concert.

Turkey Favorites

Posted by breading in Interesting, Istanbul, Places Of Interest, Things Must Do, Turkey, Useful Links 101 on 01 13th, 2010

As someone who loves food and an adventurous one at that - i’m sure you can understand why I love Turkey this much.  While i was on the way there one way - i had read something about  glucosamine for a co-worker of mine in Istanbul.  Anyhow, coming back to my adventure in Turkey - when i first arrived i asked myself - why didn’t i agree to go any earlier - when the company had offered me a project there.

Turkey is not only about Turkish delight - but wait - while i am at it - i want you to know that the Turkish delight one can find here is not the same as the real ones.  Anyhow, Turkey!  a delightful city for there is food just about everywhere.  You need to try just about everything - and i had the luxury to - well, almost because I was there for about a month - from fish to spices.

Some corn? this kinda cart is just about everywheres.

Don’t forget to try the grilled fish sandwiches - a must try.

What better place to bring your kids to then Disney Land in the Winter and yes, kids from all over Asia - now can be a part of this dream come true in Hong Kong Disney Land.  Of course, the men would prefer to be looking at Ferrari parts than seeing Cinderella or Snow White but i’m sure all parents around the world wants to bring happiness to their kids right?  Yes, we are not any different - had we been in Asia, we would have booked a flight out to Hong Kong this very moment.

This is the sleeping beauty castle during the nite - isn’t that amazing!!!  You will love it.. and so will your kids - don’t missed out on Hong Kong Disneyland of course you alo opt to go to Japan - Tokyo - but for a lot of people Hong Kong is a cheaper alternative .. and the food in Hong Kong gotta be the best!

Louisiana Supreme Court Building

Posted by breading in Places Of Interest, Things Must Do, USA, Useful Links 101 on 10 10th, 2009

The Louisanna Supreme Court Building near the french quarter hotels of Beaux Arts-style and originally called the “New Courthouse Building” was originally built from 1908-1910. Its purpose was to “clear slums” while replacing the Cabildo and Presbytère as the seat of local justice. For fifty years the Louisiana Supreme Court and a spate of lower courts and offices drew swarms of glad-handed politicians, judges and lawyers, plaintiffs and defendants, juries and commissioners, clerks and secretaries, librarians, and even an occasional historian through its sculpted hallways. But in 1958 the Supreme Court departed for newer quarters and others soon followed. The Louisiana Wild Life and Fisheries Museum moved in, but when they left, the building closed and was allowed to decay. After an extensive renovation in 2004, the Louisiana Supreme Court moved back into the courthouse, and were joined by Court of Appeal-Fourth Circuit, the State Judicial Administrator’s Office, the Law Library of Louisiana, an Attorney General’s Office and, in time, a legal museum. The building is guarded by a statue of former United States Chief Justice, Edward Douglas White.

Autumn In Hague

Posted by breading in Amsterdam, Interesting, Things Must Do, Traveling Tips, Useful Links 101, Vacations on 10 6th, 2009

Amsterdam in the Autumn is quite an amazing sight - to another friend, it was quite strange - was it the culture?  was it  because there were too many bikes?  but to some Amsterdam brings a sense of fear  .. is it because of being the international drug lord/land there..?? the red light district..??  or the many stories we hear of american girls going on backpacks .. and missing and never to be found..?

I travel with my Blue Cross NC but even though it is no use overseas, I know that they have most of my info with them - when in need.  Amsterdam never brings fear to me because there are a lot of Asians around too and whenever I am there, I take in the lights and sights, bridges, canals and all thing gorgeous.  I was in Hague one time and it was pretty awesome to see the International Court of Justice.  If you haven’t been tot he Muritshuis Museum, you should..! because i got to see some of Vermeer’s famous work and the work of Rembrandt.  I’m not the arty farty type.. but i really liked it.. and sat down for lunch outside the museum.. and took in the cool air.

Reclining Buddha

Posted by breading in General Info, Places Of Interest, Thailand, Things Must Do, Vacations on 09 28th, 2009

In Thailand, or should i say the whole of Thailand, you will see reclining Buddhas of all sizes.  It’s amazing to me anyway, how Thailand who is seemingly one of the poorer country amongst the neighbouring countries, seems to have the money to paste on gold sleeves for their Buddhas yet have no money to help the poorer population in the country and almost all the gals i know of is a working girl at one point of their life.   But that’s another story for another time.

This reclining Buddha is found in Ayutthaya, Thailand.  Gone are the days, whereby one have to spend hours on the road to get to Ayutthaya.  Now one can travel from Bangkok to Ayutthaya in less than an hour, thanks to the new toll way and the divided highway. Ayuthaya is the old capital of Thailand and it used to be one of the richest cities in Asia i heard - exporting rice, animal skins and ivory even in the 1600s.  The city was completely burned down during the war in 1767.  Visit all the temples and palaces while you are there.. and be amazed at the architectural details of all the temples.  It is really a beautiful place with lots of history… listen to the wind blow secrets while you enjoy the elephant herds.

Millennium Bridge - St Paul’s Cathedral

Posted by breading in General Info, Interesting, Places Of Interest, Things Must Do, Useful Links 101, Vacations on 09 18th, 2009

A definite must to visit when one is in London - the Millennium Bridge.  This bridge links from the City of London at St Paul’s with the Tate Modern Gallery at Bankside - the bridge is at 330m long.  Although  Myrtle beach golf packages was very tempting  …  i had no regrets going to London too.  I had a very nice walk across the bridge.. although it was nicknamed the Wobbly bridge .. because of the swaying motion .. when the bridge was first opened.. and was closed down.. by those embarrassed engineers.. and after modification .. it was reopened in 2002.  And yes.. the bridge didn’t wobble this time round.. hahha!!

Northern Lights, Nunavut

Posted by breading in Canada, General Info, Things Must Do, Useful Links 101 on 09 3rd, 2009

Breath-taking..?? this is not the first that i’ve seen .. and in Nunavut… you get to see a lot of northern light up there. Nunavut is so far..and so remote..  you don’t even wanna begin to think about it.  Winter is harsh.. and it takes a local or someone very brave.. to be up there.

Although it is the largest province in the country..  fitting 2 Onatarios.. i heard..  Nunavut’s capital is in Iqaluit. Nunavut has Canada’s coldest weather. If you are station up in Nunavut.. you can afford just about everything..  from LCD HDTV to the latest and finest gadgets you can find in the world, for i hear they pay really well.

According to Inuit mythology, the Northern Lights are the souls of those who died through blood loss. In the green swirling sky, their spirits play a gruesome game of soccer with a human skull or walrus head. Traditionally, Inuit healers also made “spirit journeys” into the lights to seek advice and save souls from death. And some say whistling at the lights makes them draw closer. According to science, the lights are actually caused by glowing molecular gases set off by charged particles from the sun. The lights have been around since Earth formed an atmosphere -the dinosaurs saw it, early humans saw it and our descendants will se it. The scientific name for the phenomenon is “Aurora Borealis”, aurora for short.

The best time to view the aurora borealis in Nunavut is around midnight during the fall and early spring. Light displays continue in mid-winter, but bone-chilling temperatures can make aurora-watching somewhat challenging. The aurora aren’t visible during summer due to extended hours of daylight.
