Embassy Suites – Niagara Falls Toronto

We had never stayed at the Niagara Falls before but since there was a special deal on Dealfind one day – we decided to make a trip up to the Embassy Suites by Hilton. We arrived late in the evening and it was a very busy spot as you can see. Located at Fallsview – with casinos like 2 blocks away – its definitely a great location for those who wants to try their luck in the casino.

As for us – we turned in early and got up early too – just so we can talk a walk around and see what Niagara falls have to offer us.

With TGIF just behind the hotel and the Keg in the hotel itself – you don’t even have to walk out of the hotel if you don’t want to. I think the best part of staying at the Embassy Suites is the spectacular view of the Horseshoe fall on the Canadian side. But be warned to stay on the upper floors else you will be disappointed.

The rooms were huge and clean – but it had seen better days – the aging of this magnificent hotel is showing – another few more years – they would definitely need some renovation. And what’s with hotel and their bed cover colors – those are the most deary looking ones – but most hotels have the same type of bed covers.

A little kitchenette – great for family who has kids like us.

A jacuzzi for those romantic evenings – don’t forget to bring some bubble bath and rose petals.

A very awesome view from our room – we were pretty pleased.

A pretty big pool which gets really busy with kids during the weekend – so if you have kids – don’t worry about them not having fun – they will make friends really quick like mine.

Surprisingly, they have a big business center at the Embassy Suites even though the room has wireless.

The lobby was really nice – but I won’t go to the Manager’s reception if I were you – they served us drinks in a plastic cups! hahahah!! too funny! Overall, it was a good stay and we will return if we had just a good deal for the room. The rooms were like $149 a night but it included food vouchers for The Keg Steakhouse and casino chips of up to $50 and some manicure spa thing for $50. A pretty good deal if you asked me – so we can’t complain eh.

Downtown Toronto – Marriot Residence Inn

While many feel that the hotel’s lobby and restaurants are important when you pick a hotel – it’s the room and the recreation areas that are most important to me. When I get into the room and see such a big bed – I’m usually impressed already – I love a king size bed room – even if I was traveling alone. I don’t know why but I don’t like sleeping in small beds.

The Marriot hotels rarely disappoints – so I wasn’t too surprised that I liked the room and the inn as soon as I checked in. The price was right since I was traveling with kids – it was good to have a small kitchenette for us to do our little microwaving for milk and other snacks for the kid.

There was a little dining area – for us to eat in if we wanted to or put another laptop to work on. The Marriot Residence is near the entertainment center – and there are plenty of restaurants nearby. Every room I was told had wifi – and they are free and the TV are those flat screen ones. Overall, we find that the hotel is nice and new – the front desk staff were pleasant – but unlike the Hyatt of course, where they try very hard to please you and make everything as best as possible. But of course, you will see the price difference you pay at the Hyatt as compared to the Marriot Residence Inn – so I rate the hotel pretty good for the price I had paid for my business trip.

Kid’s Friendly Hotel

So you are thinking of bringing your kids for a vacation this Christmas – but of course – you need a hotel that is kid friendly and have certain amenities for kids as well. But you also don’t want to pay top dollars for just accommodation alone for you want to leave some spending money so that you and your kids can buy some souvenirs home right? I can understand it completely – but do you want to just choose a hotel with a pool and pool safety fence or do you want also restaurants for them to eat in – as well as an amusement park nearby for convenience reason? What about the rooms? do you want a hotel to provide those free roll-in bed or a sofa bed? yes you have to take all these into consideration.

The Westin Chosun is one of my favorite hotel when I am in Asia – not only is it reasonable in prices – it is kid’s friendly as well as very near a shopping market.

The Myeong dong market is like a cluster of shopping center together – they have loads of high end shops here – and you can shop till you drop. I loved the street food on the Myeong Dong Market – and everything is just so cheap there.

The interior of the Westin Chosun is pretty luxurious as you can view from this picture – very much like a Japanese hotel but much bigger rooms. The pool is an olympic size pool and you can see children playing at the children’s pool and although they do not have safety fences like the B & B’s in the West – you also will be in awe of the Olympic size pool that most western hotels do not have but definitely kid’s friendly.

Fire Destroys Historic Resort White Point

I had been meaning to write about White Point Beach Resort for a few weeks now – and yes – for those who have been to White Point Beach Resort – you will be kinda sad like I was. I know that White Point had planned to renovate in 2012 from a government loan and now to have it destroy by fire – will cost more money to renovate? or will the insurance take care of it. What was the caused of the fire – I don’t think we know anything about it till now. The resort had been operating for many, many years now and is a very popular destination for weddings and holiday makers. Below are some pictures of the resort taken during our various visits throughout my years in Canada.

Spring Time In Greece

I’ve been to Greece many time because my CEO was from Greece and usually when we do go to Barcelona – the factory where the company used to be – we would head to Greece for a short break. So I was very fortunate to be able to see a lot of Greece and you know what the people there like most? American souvenirs it seems – so I brought some American silver eagles for my CEO’s wife and his daughters – Sofia and Anna-Maria. They in turn brought me to the hotel they worked in.

The Royal Myconian Hotel is one of the most beautiful hotel I’ve seen and its view was simply awesome. This is the terrace bar at the hotel - pretty hot now – but later in the evening – it’s a great place to get a drink and read a book or even catch up with friends.

Love the pool and the scenic – so calm and so serene. The hotel was spotless and the amenities was like any 5-star hotel and I was quite impressed at how quiet the staff were. Spring time isn’t peak season in Greece – therefore, you can get a very good rate for a hotel like this. The funny thing about Greece is everyone can speak in Spanish – no wonder my CEO married a Spaniard. The beaches surrounding the hotel was clean and absolutely beautiful and I was told by the gals that you can choose to suntan in the nuke – if you so choose to. Be careful when you take a cab to town – because cabby tend to overcharge tourist – so i heard but most people are very nice in Greece.

On Business @ The Fairmount Banff Springs Hotel

Some people called the town of Banff a tourist trap – hahah! and I don’t disagree with them – for everything is very expensive in Banff – luckily, I was there on business and the company took care of all my hotel charges. I stayed at the Fairmount Banff Springs Hotel – and it was definitely one of the best hotels that I’ve stayed in – in all my years of traveling. I’m sorry there isn’t too much photos because at that time – I didn’t start writing a blog yet – I wished I had known more about blogging.

I was out of business cards and after talking with the concierge – I didn’t think I would spend so much on them – so I went to an online printing services and had my business cards done. I took a walk around the town – but I still couldn’t find any printing house – and of course all the shop houses didn’t have a price on anything they had for sale on the display window. But all said – I’ve been to Calgary many times and had taken day trips to Banff – so I’m not surprised – or should not be surprised. But I’ve developed a love for Banff Springs and my daughter – when she first stepped in the hotel told me – “IT’S LIKE A CASTLE!” I love the high tea there – it was to die for – but the mountain view where we always sit – was a magnificent view. I can certainly use another trip to the Fairmount Banff Springs soon.

The Grand Copthorne Hotel

The Grand Copthorne Hoel was like a second home to me – many years ago – why? because my boss was staying at the Grand permanently – for 2 years. Yes! they do have long staying guests at this hotel and the rates are awesome. I love the grand entrance at the Grand – and believed that the ball in front with water features is due to feng shui reasons. I think the Kwek family owns the Grand Copthorne if I am not wrong. One thing I also loved about the Grand are all their lighting fixtures especially their bathroom lighting fixtures , in fact I liked it so much – I tried to find the same supplier they got to get the same lighting fixtures for my bathrooms at home.

The rooms were pretty nice – and they had good restaurants at the hotel – and a very grand lobby with very pleasant hotel staff.

And I’ve eaten at the Cafe Brio for so many times – I can memorized the menu – but I think I loved most is the cold cut bar – with oysters and salad and fruits. So if you are looking for a place to eat or stay in Singapore – try the Grand Copthorne Hotel – because the locality is just great.

Traveling For The Love Of Love

Some people travel for the love of shopping and some people because of the historical presence in a certain place – but I travel for the love of food mostly – well, besides work of course. And one of the best oyster bars that I’ve been too – sits right in Asia – Hong Kong at the Sheraton Hotel in Kowloon. Their Oyster & Wine Bar offers around 800 of the delectable creatures. Check every now and then as you will find different varieties coming from the different regions where oysters are grown. Some of the oysters are flown from Oregon, Galway, Tasmania, Colchester, Brittany, Japan, Long Island, Chile, South Africa and Vietnam. Watch out for the Namibian varieties and the Chilean ones when they are offered.

Christmas In BC

I love Victoria, BC – and when I was invited to spend Christmas with a friend at Christmas in BC – I really wanted to go. My childhood friend was flying out from UK and was staying at the Fairmont Empress Hotel – an icon of downtown Victoria that everyone knows about. I remember the really awesome English tea that you can have at the Fairmont Empress – but they are pretty costly – if I may add – about $40 – $55 a person. I love the Empress – from the outside to the inside - I love the ambiance of the hotel – the chandeliers. I wished I could be in BC for Christmas – but family commitment as well as work – just did not permit us to fly to BC this year – maybe next – but for those who are heading to BC – don’t forget to check out my favorite oyster bar @ Humboldt Street for Buck-A-Shuck oysters. Yums!

Resort In Phuket

There are many resorts in Phuket – after all Phuket is a touristy place. But this resort I loved ! because it was a pool villa! and the beach is just right in front of our villa – about a 10 mins walk. We were given the Pearl Bed Suite if I am not wrong. Every suite I heard is themed differently, although i enjoyed my stay at the resort – I find it very inconvenient when we wanted to go outta the resort and enjoy the sightseeing of Phuket. I think the Indigo resort is great – for couples who just wants to relax and enjoy the sun.

The Indigo Phuket resort is relatively new as you can see in the decor of the hotel. I heard it’s by well known architect Bill something. I thought the bathroom was pretty cool!

Sit and relax in your private patio – and read a book and sip some cocktail. Did I tell you – they served breakfast in our room?

Lots of greenery as you can see here from the outside of our villa. The service was great and it felt so good to tip the service staff because they really made our stay so pleasurable. I want to go back to this resort sometime soon – it’s really a tropical paradize for anyone.
