A friend who was heading up to Paris asked me where he should go eat – a must eat – in Paris and I recommended an outdoor cafe in Paris called the Au Petit Sud Quest – located at the Avenue de la Bourdonnais. If you can’t find your way there – check with your hotel concierge. The prices range from $50 – $90 per person but it will be one of the best meal you’ve eaten anywhere.

What so special about this little outdoor cafe? first you can sit indoors if you wished but I always choose to eat outside because of the beautiful scenery and all walks of people come by here. The service is awesome and they have a very well stocked cellar in the cafe. I loved the way they are so personable – while everyone says that in Paris – the french just don’t want to speak in other languages – but the owner of the cafe is very nice. I speak very little french – but they were very kind to us. The best part was that they took time to explain to us about the dish and how it was cooked. This place is about wine, duck and foie gras and because I loved mushroom so much – they made a nice crepe with mushroom for me. For dessert we had the creme brulee – what else! so if you are headed out to Paris – check out this little cafe/restaurant.

Some of the best food in Hong Kong are found on the street – someone told me before I first visited Hong Kong – that you can forgo any kind of food in Hong Kong – but you have to taste all the street food in Hong Kong. Not only are they cheap they are darn good. Don’t be mislead that street food in Hong Kong isn’t clean – in fact – they are just as clean – or more than the high class restaurants that you go to in Hong Kong. I loved the curry fishballs on skewer and the octopus on skewer – and not forgetting the siew mai on skewer and sweet chilli sauce as well.

Made of flour and eggs – this is a local delicacy – for all Hong Kongers – it’s like an afternoon snack for them.

Fried Hor Fun may not be exactly street food – but you can find them in small chinese cafe in Hong Kong – they are definitely a must try – loved their dry hor fun. Try the ones with sambal - it’s in a pretty high class restaurant in Hong Kong – taste different but only if you like it hot.

Polo bun is a must when you are in Hong Kong – yummy to the max.

And my favorite red bean ice dessert – also another must eat and drink.

I love going to Ipoh in Malaysia – of course there is more than just Roti Prata in Ipoh – in fact lately Ipoh had been quite the vibrant town with lots of resorts everywhere. But I do like the roti prata in Ipoh – the fluffy piece of flour – and a good bowl of curry to dip them in – and if you are lucky – you may even get a piece of chicken or lamb. From the Strawberry park to the Banjaran Hot Spring Resort – depending on your budget – I say Ipoh, Malaysia is a fabulous place to visit if you are in Asia. But the Banjaran Hot Spring Resort is my destination when I visit Asia next – or should I say when I go home next.

My girlfriend came back from Asia – and asked me about certain food that she had tried when she was there. One of the places that interest her a lot was KL – as in Kuala Lumpur. Kuala Lumpur is in Malaysia – and one of the most vibrant city in Malaysia. They say that things are relatively more expensive in Kuala Lumpur than other places in Malaysia – but that’s because Kuala Lumpur is a more advance and a business district – but compared to different countries in Asia – they are still very affordable.

Street restaurants like this are common in Kuala Lumpur and they have cleaned up the street restaurants a lot to entice the tourists – and food is definitely more authentic and cheaper in this kind of restaurant than the air -conditioned ones. Plus, you get a taste of the real food here.

The king of fruit is a must try – you may not like the smell – but it’s awesome after you’ve tasted it.

These food on sticks are for dipping them in a pot of chicken stock or tom yum stock. Some also use peanut sauce for dipping as well. And they are very cheap to eat – but remember to leave the sticks on the table – so that they can count how much you’ve eaten. Food are very fresh here.

Street fruits are just as cheap in KL – buy them fresh and eat them on the spot.

Have some claypot rice while you are there – they are rice baked on charcoal fire – with chicken and chinese sausages and mushroom. The black color in the rice is a sweet soya sauce – and they are yummilicious. So if you are in Asia – please try out their street food – it’s an amazing experience.

Macau has many places that one must visit and eat in them – and one such place is Seng Cheong famous for their water crab porridge. This place is always crowded – whatever time you visit – so be prepared to wait – it’s located in Taipa – you can’t missed it – ask your concierge if you can’t find the place. Oh ! it’s very near to the Venetian if you take a cab there.

Inside of Seng Cheong – it’s nothing spectacular – in fact – it’s like one of those coffee shop we have back home. You can order the porridge according to how many crabs you want in your porridge – but the minimum is one crab. The crab was tasty – but not as good as I had expected but nevertheless – it was pretty yummy – that bowl of porridge fed like 4 of us, of course we had other dishes too. Writing this already is making me drool like crazy – hahah!

And yes! there are Mcdonald’s around Macau as you can see here in fact there are quite a few – my friends from Canada had asked me – so I had to put this up for them.

Of course, there were the Chee Cheong Fun to die for! very cheap too!

The spouse had a bit of tim sum with his chee cheong fun as well – still cheap.

And a must try for good food – is the Dumbo restaurant. They called it the quail – I called it the pigeon – hahha!! but they were yummy! and cheap too – like $4 a piece. More on Eat Your Way Around Macau in another post.

For those who frequent Bangkok and want some good ribs – then you have to try this Bangkok bar called The Roadhouse. Mesquite wood is flown in for the proper smoky flavor. The American style smokehouse and barbecue joint occupies three floors where Surawong Road meets Rama IV. Hamburgers are always hard to come by for the American traveler and this is one solid option. Pulled pork sandwiches, Philly cheesesteaks, Texas brisket and housemade cole slaw are also offered. The Roadhouse is also a sports bar and while much of what comes into Bangkok by cable or satellite is football (soccer), rugby and cricket, this is also reliable for American football and basketball.

Watch for Buffalo wing specials on Monday nights. Foosball, a pool table, shuffleboard and the sports bar element are all on the third floor. Almost a dozen beers are on tap (including Guinness, Kilkenny, Stella Artois, Hoegaarden and more) and served cold enough to freeze the condensation on the tappers. The wine list tops 60. The bar serves a bucket of peanuts to munch on if you’re in for a beer or three. This is a five-minute walk along Rama IV from Saladaeng BTS station and Silom MRT station.

One of the best Parisian Cafes that I had been to – is the Cafe de Flore at Boulevard Saint-Germain – this place has a history – a very long and interesting one – if I may add. I read that the name ‘Flore’ came about because there is a little statue [...]

One of the best Parisian Cafes that I had been to – is the Cafe de Flore at Boulevard Saint-Germain – this place has a history – a very long and interesting one – if I may add. I read that the name ‘Flore’ came about because there is a little statue of the Goddess Flore across the street. Modigliani, Picasso and Soutine used to frequent this cafe – interesting right? Cafe de Flore is also a historical landmark in Paris since 1890, this cafe was a favorite of many great 19th-century writers and artists. French philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre always took his coffee and croissant on the terrace. These days you can drop in for a quick snack or glass of Champagne having shopped-till-you-dropped in the district’s luxurious boutiques. The smart set that revels in the cafe’s upmarket style ensures that its reputation lives on. For me I had the perfect hot chocolate at Cafe De Flore and watch the world go by every time I am in Paris.

You can’t miss the big sign right outside the cafe – at the Rotorua when you are in New Zealand. Some of you might already guess where this is right? Fat Dog!! located on the main road in Auckland – you can’t miss that big blue sign. I love that place – it’s more like a gathering place – for breakfast, lunch and dinner - but if you want a drink at night, you can also come by here as well.

I love the chalkboard menu anytime – so retro – so like the 70s – the 80s – during the Fonzies time. hahah!! yes, yes! you can imagine how old I am eh. I love how everything you order is like huge portion of it – you can’t really finish everything – but it’s definitely great if you are going with good friends or family – then you can order different food – and share them.

Breakfast is so yummy – even though they were just muesli with fruits – but how can one resist this bowl of art work right?

The wooden chairs and couches are comfy and you can sit and chat as long as you want. The next time you are there – make sure you buy a t-shirt from Fat Dog – even though they are expensive – I think it is a good gift to get for yourself to bring home from Auckland.
