While the neighbours had gone to support their favorite team in Vancouver, BC for the Olympics - I sadly was looking for discount prescription eyeglasses as I watch over the television for more celebration in Vancouver city. Of course, they had to rub it in.. and send me pictures taken with their iPhone!! grrrr..!! but I thought I would share these wonderful and vibrant pictures with the world too. This was taken at the corner of Howe St & West Georgia St.

As a resident in Canada for the past 10 yrs - I’ll have to say that I’m certainly proud that the event was a success - moreso proud because the Canada won many gold medals in this Winter Olympic. Looking at the pictures sent by the neighbours you can feel and see how supportive everyone in Canada was to make this awesome place a success in welcoming the entire world.

What are your thoughts? were you in Vancouver? How I wished we could go to .. but with a kid in school and there were no special Olympic break given - we had no choice but to stay put and watch on television.

As I was looking at my life insurance quotes , there had been talk about a new air service in Yarmouth for a few weeks now - and apparently - it will be up and running real soon - in fact in March. I’ve written a few weeks ago about Starlink Aviation pulling out of Yarmouth because of funding being utilized to the max which was supposedly for 5 yrs period from the government. I wonder for the people of Yarmouth - how this new air service will work out for them - since it is only going to land in Maine and Yarmouth and not in Halifax? A 8 seater plan was so secretly kept till last week - wonder whats all the secrecy about ? but as the people of Yarmouth loves to say - ” THIS IS YARMOUTH! “ Good luck to the ppl of Yarmouth and the air service .. i hope things panned out better for both.
Winter Olympics In Vancouver
Posted by breading in Accommodation, Canada, Useful Links 101, Vancouver, Whistler on 02 1st, 2010
The 2010 winter olympics in Vancouver is just round the corner and already i know of some ppl who are on the airplane heading there. But be careful while you travel to support your favorite team or ppl during the Olympics because there are loads of scammers out there trying to get your money. Well, scammers are everywhere they would try and get your money - even if it means selling you tile flooring if they so much think that you need them. But beware of those who offers you accommodation at a special rate or even those selling you game tickets or Olympics souvenirs. Use your common sense and if the deal is too good, you know something is wrong with it.
Nova Scotia Loses The Cat Ferry
Posted by breading in Canada, Cruise, Nova Scotia, Useful Links 101 on 01 19th, 2010
Sometime before Christmas last year - Bay Ferries announced that they were cancelling their services between Bar Harbor, Portland and Yarmouth due to weak economy and no funding from the Canadian government. They did this without any prior warning it seems just as easy as using an acne scar removal . There was a big boo ha about this issue - because a lot of jobs will be lost and tourism which is already daunted because of the weak dollar - will close its gateway for the people from United States to not only Nova Scotia but Canada. So if you are planning to take the CAT to Nova Scotia - better make other plans. I know of many Americans who have holiday houses here in Canada -and I wonder how this is affecting them. I’m pretty sure some people ain’t too happy.
Yarmouth BackPackers

Yarmouth Backpackers is located in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia - Canada. If there is a place i would recommend to stay with for the weekend when you are passing thru’ Yarmouth - it has to be this place. It is not only cheap - but very clean and the owners - Cathie and Lee with their daughter are a delightful family to be with. Cathie who hailed from Australia - is a wonderful person to chat with and they are very hospitable as well. I have to say they cooked really well that my friends who will be staying with them next summer may need slim pills when they go home.

Located at the south end of town, the outside does not do the inside any justice. There are some convenient stores nearby and the hosts will be able to give you directions to several interesting places and lighthouses to visit.

The rooms are spacious - clean and most definitely homely, it’s home away from home. Choose from either a shared dormitory room (co-ed), twin room, private double or single room. There are full kitchen facilities, BBQ, a TV room with games & books, two share bathrooms, internet access, parking, bike storage, large garden and a sun deck. Linen and blankets are included in the room cost. Definitely my choice of accommodation if you ever come by this way.
Dragonfly Inn, Annapolis Valley

Dragonfly Inn reminds me of Gilmore Girls, so being a huge fan of that show, we just had to check out this inn. More like a bed and breakfast and like almost all B & B .. they did not disappoint at all. If you are passing thru’ Nova Scotia on the way up to Halifax, you might just want to spend a nite at this cozy and lovely inn. We brought our xbox 360 since they have high speed internet and dvd machines in the rooms. You can also try the Coach house if you have kids .. as they have microwave ovens and a fridge for you. I absolutely love the cozy rooms .. although i could use a bigger bathtub ..and a jacuzzi in the room would be even better. The rates are very reasonable.. at $149 Canadian.. for the suite rooms and breakfast included as well. Check out time is 3pm .. which is very rare in the hotel industry.. and check in is as early as 11am. You would love that the inn is located at the heart of the Evangeline Trail and only a short walk to Fort Anne and the Historic Gardens. There are cafes and markets as well as specialty stores in the valley, and we will go back there when we get the chance.
Internet On Flight Air Canada
Posted by breading in Airplanes, Canada, General Info, Interesting, USA, Useful Links 101 on 11 22nd, 2009
So for those flying Air Canada from now to end of January, you don’t have to rush home to your apartments just to get onto the internet. Now you can do all your online work from the flight, well, actually only from Toronto to Los Angeles. The service will cost $9.95 per flight for customers with a laptop computer and $7.95 for a personal electronic device. Not too expensive in my humble opinion.. because your flight has gotta be more than an hour right..?? So don’t forget to ask for their wireless service on board.. if you are flying Air Canada.
Northern Lights, Nunavut
Posted by breading in Canada, General Info, Things Must Do, Useful Links 101 on 09 3rd, 2009
Breath-taking..?? this is not the first that i’ve seen .. and in Nunavut… you get to see a lot of northern light up there. Nunavut is so far..and so remote.. you don’t even wanna begin to think about it. Winter is harsh.. and it takes a local or someone very brave.. to be up there.
Although it is the largest province in the country.. fitting 2 Onatarios.. i heard.. Nunavut’s capital is in Iqaluit. Nunavut has Canada’s coldest weather. If you are station up in Nunavut.. you can afford just about everything.. from LCD HDTV to the latest and finest gadgets you can find in the world, for i hear they pay really well.
According to Inuit mythology, the Northern Lights are the souls of those who died through blood loss. In the green swirling sky, their spirits play a gruesome game of soccer with a human skull or walrus head. Traditionally, Inuit healers also made “spirit journeys” into the lights to seek advice and save souls from death. And some say whistling at the lights makes them draw closer. According to science, the lights are actually caused by glowing molecular gases set off by charged particles from the sun. The lights have been around since Earth formed an atmosphere -the dinosaurs saw it, early humans saw it and our descendants will se it. The scientific name for the phenomenon is “Aurora Borealis”, aurora for short.
The best time to view the aurora borealis in Nunavut is around midnight during the fall and early spring. Light displays continue in mid-winter, but bone-chilling temperatures can make aurora-watching somewhat challenging. The aurora aren’t visible during summer due to extended hours of daylight.

Canada’s Tourism Affected By Passport Regulation
Posted by breading in Accommodation, Canada, General Info, Interesting, USA on 07 20th, 2009Hotels, bed and breakfast, restaurants and many tourism and places of interest is affected already because of the low American dollar. But with the new passport regulation between the U.S. border and Canada, it is making it even harder for the small business owners to stay in business.
For instance, the drop in the number of Americans using the ferry between Bar Harbor, Maine, and Yarmouth, N.S., isn’t as bad as expected. George Driscoll, vice-president of marketing and sales for Bay Ferries, says a survey of possible travellers in the New England states last fall indicated about 30 per cent of them did not have passports.
I was very surprised to read the above .. because we certainly have seen a declined in tourism in our area. When the claimed that the Canadian brand is strong.. i supposed they are thinking of bigger places like Toronto and Vancouver - i beg to differ here in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.
