BangKok Bars

July 9th, 2011

For those who frequent Bangkok and want some good ribs – then you have to try this Bangkok bar called The Roadhouse.  Mesquite wood is flown in for the proper smoky flavor. The American style smokehouse and barbecue joint occupies three floors where Surawong Road meets Rama IV. Hamburgers are always hard to come by for the American traveler and this is one solid option. Pulled pork sandwiches, Philly cheesesteaks, Texas brisket and housemade cole slaw are also offered. The Roadhouse is also a sports bar and while much of what comes into Bangkok by cable or satellite is football (soccer), rugby and cricket, this is also reliable for American football and basketball.

Watch for Buffalo wing specials on Monday nights. Foosball, a pool table, shuffleboard and the sports bar element are all on the third floor. Almost a dozen beers are on tap (including Guinness, Kilkenny, Stella Artois, Hoegaarden and more) and served cold enough to freeze the condensation on the tappers. The wine list tops 60. The bar serves a bucket of peanuts to munch on if you’re in for a beer or three. This is a five-minute walk along Rama IV from Saladaeng BTS station and Silom MRT station.

It was very hot and humid even though it was in March only – but it’s almost always hot and humid in Thailand I guess whatever time you planned to go.  And besides the Chatuchak  Weekend Market that everyone wants to visit – there is the Royal Palace and the many temples in BangKok that one can visit while you are there.  This statue was outside the Royal Palace – as if it was holding onto the Palace – the entire place was with this figurine.

Some said some of the statues are made of gold but it’s not true – it’s more like people thanking the Gods and pasting gold pieces or films.  But what is ironic about Bangkok is even though it is one of the richest country in the world – most of the girls I know there – works as a working girl at one point in their life.

My buddies and girlfriends are heading to Bangkok this weekend for a shopping and eating trip – no kids please they said – in their email to me but alas – I can’t go.  And they are going to be doing a lot of shopping and eating, since Bangkok is a shopping and eating paradise.  I bet they are going to put on some weight – but no worries – they have their weight loss vitamins that works every time – they said.  So eat now and then diet later.  I know they are going to have a lot of fun and I want to wish them a good trip – and eat and drink a lot on my behalf girls !  i can’t wait to see how the photos and shopping loot you are going to bring back.

If you are thinking of taking a weekend trip to Bangkok this weekend – you better cancel your trip even though I know some would love to see the Golden lighting there but the authorities fear that things might turn violent during the weekend.   It looks like a civil war is about to start and I haven’t seen one of this in a long time now.   But yes it can turn ugly – and I was in one in Vietnam some 20 yrs ago – and had to be evacuated out of there by a special group – so my advice – better be safe than sorry.

The Floating Market of Bangkok Thailand is what i would described as a farmer’s market but on water. I  think it is more a novelty .. than anything else… but you can buy lots of fruits, cooked food, clothing, handbags, jewelry and even replica watches and they don’t take no for an answer.

The floating market is an hour and half drive by car .. from the city. It’s interesting to see people selling stuff from their little dingy boat..  but I would never eat it.. because of hygiene reasons.  Afterall, I don’t wanna get sick.. while on a vacation right.  But a lot of people are fascinated by this novelty… they call it the Venice in Asia.  I also remember they did charge for the entrance to get into the floating market.. but if you go with a tour group.. it should be included.
